Middle Years Students engage in S.T.E.A.M conference for teachers

The way that conferences are delivered is changing and Adolescent Success Inc. is at the forefront, facilitating a unique and dynamic education event which presents four conferences in one.  Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre 24-26 August 2017, education sector delegates are expected to exceed six hundred.

Adolescent Success Inc. was among applicants vying for selection for 28 Advancing Science Grants awarded by the Queensland Government.  Their successful application and receipt of the grant means that one hundred Middle Years students from Queensland are set to attend the conference.

These students will participate alongside teachers and principals in keynote speaker presentations and hands on breakout workshops designed specifically to engage young people in S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths).   “By having student delegates at the conference we are advocating for more than just unique and authentic student voice but also for involving all students in rich, challenging and memorable learning experiences.  Who knows, we might spark the flame that creates a future world breaking scientist or technologist at this conference”, said Angela White, Executive Officer for Adolescent Success.

Across the three days of the conference these four events will take place concurrently:

  1. Principals and Leaders conference
  2. Teachers and Educators conference
  3. Students from the middle years conference
  4. Academics and PhD students round table on current middle years research

Also included in the program are school visits and hands on pre-conference workshops for teachers which are called a “Pass to Play’.  Angela White said, “ We hope that teachers take this opportunity to play with S.T.E.A.M and engage with the enjoyment of playing and creating”.

Government backing for this student involvement affirms Adolescent Success commitment to promoting S.T.E.A.M programs in the Middle Years and the importance of promoting these subject strands in all High Schools in Australia.

Although the student places are filled, teachers and other educators can still register to attend this unique event by going to the Adolescent Success website: www.adolescentsuccess.org.au or by contacting Angela White on angela@adolescentsuccess.org.au or +61 452 475 184
